St Stephens Street in Norwich was once voted the worst street in East Anglia in a BBC Radio 4 Today programme competition.

The improvements that followed linked the new bus station to the railway station with a “green spine” through the city centre. The street was cleared of clutter and rebuilt with new paving, lighting, planting and street furniture. Where there wasn’t room for trees, distinctive climbing plant supports were used, and these, along with the new seats, give the street its character.
